The Color of Magic The Sending of Eight / Chapter 4 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Rincewind sits inside a palace existing within the tree. Stay with us; it'll make sense… well, some sense, in a bit.
  • The dryad sitting across from him has green flesh and hair with a mossy vibe to it. Noticing the wound on her arm, Rincewind apologizes for tearing at the bark earlier.
  • She notes how lucky Rincewind and his friend are. The wizard wonders if Twoflower made it up a tree, too, but the dryad tells him Twoflower's found his way to the Temple of Bel-Shamharoth.
  • Rincewind's ears "[try] to crawl into his head in terror of the syllables they had just heard" (2.4.15), and he remembers the picture of Bel-Shamharoth that adorns the Octavo back at the Unseen University.
  • The dryad suggests they watch Twoflower's fate and finally introduces herself as Druellae.
  • Rincewind begins to decline before being informed that the choice isn't really a choice.
