Mrs. Hempstock

Character Analysis

Daisy's mother visits Dunstan's mother for tea and scheming, in order to get their kids fixed up and married already. Mrs. Hempstock has clearly thought this through, since she says, "'Hempstock would certainly not be averse to seeing our Daisy happy. Certain he'd settle a flock of sheep on the girl'" (1.215). Someone is definitely in matchmaker mode.
