How It All Goes Down
- Lieutenant Jonathon Jacobs is manning his post when a scout approaches with strange news—an odd-looking white man is walking their way.
- Jacobs presents this visitor to Major Robert Constable, the boss 'round these parts. He's skeptical of Glass until he says that he works for the Rocky Mountain Fur Company.
- Glass asks Jacob's if he's seen a man "with a fishhook scar"—Fitzgerald (2.26.79). Constable explains how Fitzgerald ended up in the army, and Glass dishes on his revenge quest.
- That's going to be a problem, says Major Constable. Glass can't just come in here and kill an Army man. That won't fly. Instead, the Major will be holding a court case.
- Major Constable seems way too into pretending to be a judge, if you ask us. Even worse, he seems to be buying into all of Fitzgerald's absurd lies, hook, line, and sinker.
- Fitzgerald basically claims that Glass was so delirious after the bear attack that he imagined them stealing his stuff and abandoning him. For real?
- Before Fitzgerald can finish his testimony, Glass gets fed up—he pulls out his pistol and shoots Fitzgerald in the shoulder. That's certainly one way to do it.
- Glass feels a sharp pain on the back of his head and falls unconscious.
