How we cite our quotes: All quotations are from Sixteen Candles.
Quote #4
MOM: Oh, can you remember to turn off the stove in twenty minutes?
SAM: I can remember lots of things.
Sam has a passive aggressive way of reminder her parents that they forgot her birthday. Why doesn't she just tell them how she really feels?
Quote #5
GINNY: Sam, I really don't have time for this.
SAM: Well I'm sorry. I always listen to you talk about your boyfriends.
GINNY: No, Sam, I think you're just being a little selfish and immature. […] Unbelievable. You make someone a bridesmaid and they s*** all over you.
By this point, we've seen Sam talk to everyone in her family, and they all seem to be terrible people who have no regard for Sam's feelings on her birthday. We can't imagine any other day being all the different.
Quote #6
CAROLINE: I told Tracy and Robin and those guys to come to your parents' house, okay? I told them not to tell anybody. God, I love it when your parents are out of town. I fantasize that I'm your wife and we're like the richest and most popular adults in town. I owe all my great weekends to you.
Okay, we'll lay off Sam's family for a minute to show another character betraying someone's trust. Caroline doesn't ask Jake for permission to have a party at his parents' house. She invites everyone, and he isn't happy about it.
