How It All Goes Down
- The serum wears off. How can Tris tell? Her first thought is: "I'll kill them. I will kill them" (7.3). Yep, we're talking italicized rage here. That's how you know Tris is back to her old self.
- Tobias re-hides the hard drive behind the dresser, thinking Peter won't look in the same place again.
- Instead of going to the cafeteria for dinner, Tris decides to climb an apple tree. That's one way to find dinner, we guess.
- While she's hanging up there like she's scouting out locations for Treehouse Masters, she spies a bunch of Erudite cars approaching the Amity compound. An apple a day does not keep the Erudite away.
- Tris runs to Tobias, and he decides they should disguise themselves as Amity ("Pretend to be as boring as possible") and make a break for it.
- Tris takes the gun and the hard drive. She hides the gun in her waistband and she smashes the hard drive. If there's a case for cloud computing, this is it.
- The Erudite cars arrive and it's not just Erudite who emerge… Dauntless traitors pile out, too.
- Tris and pals are pretending to be Amity when Johanna announces that Erudite is looking for them. She told them they'd left, but they still want to search the compound.
- During the search, one of the Dauntless traitors becomes suspicious of Tobias. Tobias attacks her (that's not a good way to look innocent, Tobias), and a gunfight ensues.
- Tris is too paralyzed to fire her gun, so Caleb grabs it to defend her.
- They all escape through the cornfields. Susan cries, and Tobias yells at Tris for choking during the fight.
