Miz Pinch

Character Analysis

Folks, Miz Pinch is so evil she makes Voldemort seem like Dobby the House Elf.

Miz Alpha

Even before we know that she's the mother of the King, we can tell that this lady is a legit monster—and that's putting it lightly. Miz Pinch is a criminal kingpin and a human trafficker so intimidating she makes grown men quake in their boots. Even the Cage Master meekly submits to her authority. Make no mistake about it, folks: Miz Pinch is an Alpha.

Nowhere is this more evident than in her relationship with her husband, Rooster. Rooster's ability to read and write makes him an invaluable asset here in the wasteland, so Miz Pinch dominates him with an iron fist, basically keeping him on lockdown so that she can keep him under control and use his skills for her own benefit. We actually mean that literally in this instance: Saba notices that Rooster's "hands an wrists is covered all over with ugly purple burn scars" that were surely inflicted by his lovely wife" (4.494).

Basically, there's nothing good to say about this lady. She's terrifying. She's nasty. She's also a few other things.

Mom Knows Best

Of course, the big news about Miz Pinch is the revelation that her son is Vicar Pinch, a.k.a. "The King," a.k.a. "The Chaalmeister." Interestingly, he's the only one who doesn't submit to her authority; he even goes so far as to strike her when she talks back to him. Of course, although he shares his mom's utter lack of morality, he's a total nut-job, making him far more unpredictable and maybe even more dangerous than she is.

There's not much else to say about ol' Miz Pinch—she meets a brutal end when the Desert Swan crashes. Or does she? Given her son's dramatic recovery by the end of Blood Red Road, we wouldn't be shocked to see Miz Pinch pull a Lazarus and reemerge later in the Dustlands series.
