Character Analysis
DeMalo is the Tonton head honcho who pops up throughout the novel. Saba feels simultaneously attracted to and repulsed by him, despite the fact that they never speaking a single word to each other. In the end, he abandons the King before the novel's climactic battle, shocking everyone and setting the stage for the good guys' victory. So is he good? Is he bad? We're not sure, but we're confident that we'll find out in later entries in the Dustlands trilogy.
