Joker is the Lex Luther to Batman's Superman, the Sauron to his Frodo, Joker to his Batman.

Batman and Joker are one of the most iconic pro-/antagonist pairs out there, and this film sets up Joker not only as Batman's arch-rival but Bruce Wayne's. When Bruce learns that Jack Napier was the man who killed his parents, his desire to put an end to Joker's reign of terror increases exponentially.
