Character Role Analysis

Jeffery Goines and Dr. Peters

The antagonist is the character in conflict with the protagonist, and this conflict is the driving force of the story. Since Cole's goal is to discover information on the virus, then the antagonist must be the one who released said virus. Enter Dr. Peters, mad and/or angry scientist.

Jeffery Goines, on the other hand, is a red herring, a character designed to mislead both Cole and the audience into thinking he released the virus. But in obscuring the truth, Goines comes into conflict with Cole many times throughout the story. Given this, we're giving him a mention here; let's call it honorary antagonist status. If nothing else, he deserves a participation trophy.
