Unforgiven is rated R…and that's an entirely fair rating.

The violence in this movie is more than a little rough at times. There's not a ton of it, but the few violent scenes are bloody, ruthless, and heart-rending. Even the violence that appears off-screen—a man is beaten to death, a woman's face is carved up—is affecting.

On top of all this, you're asked to (kinda, sorta) sympathize with a character who's a stone cold killer. Will Munny is, underneath his family man exterior, a bit of a creep and a sociopath. That might be the most adult thing about this film, in fact: the complete amorality of its central figure.

Yeah, we'd rate it R, too.
