In particular, he mentioned a head wound that Carl had sustained and noted that he had seen that kind of wound during WWII, when Japanese soldiers used their gun butts to perform kendo strikes. Horace told him that, if Art was going to "play Sherlock Holmes" (59), he should go looking for a "Jap" with a bloody gun butt. Charming.
