At the beginning of the movie, Sam has a simple problem: she wants her family to wish her happy sixteenth birthday.

After all, the sixteenth birthday is something many teenage girls dream of. There's a Sweet 16 Barbie doll, sweet 16 Hello Kitty cakes and the "classic" video game Mary-Kate & Ashley: Sweet 16 Licensed to Drive. You'll be seventeen before you can type out the whole title.

As you can see, turning sixteen is a big deal. Sam's upset that it isn't a big deal when her family forgets, but the movie, which takes place almost entire only that one day, turns out to be one of the most memorable days of life.

It even culminates with a cake, although not a Hello Kitty one. Step it up next year, okay, Jake?
