How It All Goes Down
- Lou rushes into the hospital. Will had seemed fine on Friday—how could he get so sick so quickly?
- Lou sits with Will until he wakes up in the middle of the afternoon. He's in rough shape. After a bit of idle conversation, Will finally says the thing Lou fears most—he's not going to be healthy enough to go on the trip.
- While canceling her reservations, Lou is interrupted by Nathan. She asks him if he knows about Will's plans for assisted suicide.
- Nathan does. While he obviously wants his friend to stay alive, as does Lou, he only wants him to hold on "if he wants to live" (22.122). That's an important distinction.
- Lou isn't giving up without a fight, however. She thinks she can put together a different trip—one that Will's doctors will approve.
