Me Before You Chapter 18 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • In a book filled with surprises, this might be the most surprising surprise yet: Will tells Lou that he's going to go to Alicia and Rupert's wedding on Saturday. And she's coming with him.
  • Alicia's parents' house is insane. Alicia herself isn't too shabby, either.
  • Lou and Will make it "through the ceremony without incident" (18.71). Phew. They both drink Pimm's cups when the reception begins, which Lou assumes are non-alcoholic.
  • Spoiler: they're not. This is going to be fun.
  • Will engages in a series of interactions, some of which are stilted and awkward, some of which are surprisingly normal. He seems to be having a great time.
  • Lou ends up talking to a woman named Mary Rawlinson, who helps people looking to take part in adult education. She gives Lou her card.
  • Realizing that they're too drunk to drive home, Will tells Lou to book a nearby hotel room. Hubba hubba.
  • Alicia and Rupert finally come by to say hello. It isn't the most charming interaction in the world, but it could have gone a lot worse.
  • Lou asks Will to dance. She plops on his lap, and they whirl around the dance floor, having a great time and attracting many confused stares.
  • At the end of the night, Lou persuades Will to go on a trip with her. A real trip. He agrees. Being toasted certainly makes the dude more amenable.
