Character Analysis
Ruana is Ray's mom. She's a supportive figure, who eventually becomes friends with Jack and Abigail after Susie's death. Although not a major character, she does drive an important element of the plot. When Jack reveals his suspicions about Mr. Harvey, she tells him, "When I was sure […] I would find a quiet way and I would kill him" (6.184). This advice is floating in Jack's ears when he almost baseball bats Clarissa, who he thinks is Harvey, in the cornfield that night. Oops!
