- It's morning, and Riley's wolfing down her sugar coated Caramel Corn Curls breakfast cereal. Take that, pizza with veggies on it.
- It's also the first day of school. Joy's super-excited and delegates jobs to everybody. Disgust, for example, is tasked with making sure Riley stands out, but also blends in at the same time. Sadness's job is to stand inside the Circle of Sadness, a circle that Joy drew on the floor.
- Once everybody knows their role, Joy gives them a pep talk: Here's their chance to make a fresh start. A good day will turn into a good week, which will turn into a good year, which turns into a good life. Um, no pressure.
- Riley heads into her new school, surveying her surroundings. Disgust makes note of some cool girls that they definitely want to become friends with.
- Fear's assessed all the potential threats specific to the first day of school, and says everything will be fine as long as they don't get called on in class.
- The new teacher calls on Riley immediately. She asks her to introduce herself to the rest of the class.
- Riley tells her classmates about Minnesota, where she used to live. She tells them about how it gets colder there, how she played hockey, all about her hockey team—and then the golden, happy memory that she's calling up turns blue. What the what?
- Sadness is at it again. The other emotions scramble to get Sadness away from the memory.
- Riley starts crying in front of her classmates. Oh, man. We're pretty sure "Weeping New Girl" is not the first impression Riley wanted to make.
- Suddenly a new Core Memory pops up in HQ. It's blue.
- Joy frantically struggles to keep the blue Core Memory from reaching the shelf behind the control panel where the other Core Memories are stored. Sadness fights to make sure the blue Core Memory makes it there.
- All the existing Core Memories get knocked off the shelf in the process, causing their associated personality traits—Goofball Island, Family Island, etc.—to go dark.
- The blue Core Memory starts getting sucked up a tube that hangs in Headquarters. Then the other Core Memories start getting sucked up there, too. Joy goes after them. Sadness goes after Joy. Then they all get sucked up and out of HQ, destination unknown.
