Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Death Quotes

How we cite our quotes: All quotations are from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Quote #7

ARTHUR WEASLEY: To Harry Potter, without whom I may not be here.

Mr. Weasley gives this toast to Harry after his visions save him from Voldemort's snake attack. This time, Harry's connection to Voldemort saves a life, but the next time he sees a vision of Sirius in trouble it will end up leading to his godfather's death. Bummer.

Quote #8

LUCIUS MALFOY: Did you actually believe, or are you truly naïve enough to think that children stood a chance against us? I'll make this simple for you, Potter. Give me the prophecy now, or watch your friends die.

This is a pretty awful choice. Harry doesn't want to hand over this prophecy—
he knows it's a weapon that Voldemort will use against him—but he also can't stand by and watch his friends die. Harry chooses life. Luckily the prophecy doesn't make it past the battleground.

Quote #9

HARRY POTTER: The prophecy said neither one can live while the other one survives. It means one of us is going to have to kill the other, in the end.

DUMBLEDORE: Yes.

HARRY POTTER: Why didn't you tell me?

DUMBLEDORE: For the same reason you tried to save Sirius. For the same reason your friends saved you. After all these years, after all you've suffered, I didn't want to cause you any more pain. I cared too much about you.

We sympathize with Dumbledore on this one. When was he supposed to tell Harry this? On his first night at Hogwarts? "Looks like you've been sorted into Gryffindor… and you'll need to kill Voldemort before he kills you. Care for some pudding?" Finding out that more death is in his future is a bitter pill for Harry to swallow.
