Quote #4

I felt like I had sucked the air out of a giant balloon, like my brain wasn't getting enough oxygen. (9.24.55)

Ethan's feeling of lightheadedness many esteemed doctors would diagnose as a symptom of lovesickness.

Quote #5

A random crack in the old plaster in the corner behind her seemed to grow, until it curled its way across the ceiling, circled the frosted chandelier, and swirled its way back down. It looked like a heart. A giant, looping, girly heart had just appeared in the cracking plaster of her bedroom ceiling. (10.09[2].13)

Some girls give watches. Some girls give chocolate. Lena gives cracked plaster. What will Ethan get on their anniversary (if they make it that far)? Drywall? In all seriousness, though, this is very sweet. Lena didn't intend to let her love for Ethan be shown, but her powers are causing it to leak out in unusual ways. All Ethan has to do is read the writing on the wall. Or the ceiling, in this case.

Quote #6

"I know you write poetry and I know about the raven on your necklace and I know you love orange soda and your grandma and Milk Duds mixed into your popcorn." For a second, I thought she might smile. "That's hardly anything," [she said]. "It's a start." (10.09[2].65)

This is an adorable conversation, isn't it? Ethan is showing Lena that he's not only paying attention to her and her interests, but that he wants to know more about her. Totally swoon-worthy.
