Jerry's his own worst enemy. The antagonist is the character who stands in the way of the protagonist achieving his goals, and that's precisely what Jerry does. He dreams of painting domination, but lacks the ambition to see the job through. He wants to make Lise his leading lady, but he's cool with ignoring the fact that she's preoccupied by something—or someone—else and prone to running away.
