For Minors: Instruction Permit & Restricted License

For Minors: Instruction Permit & Restricted License

Key thing for those of you under 18: get Mom, Dad, or your guardian to sign your application. And there are a ton of things to remember as a young driver.

A short list:

  • You must be at least 15 ½ years old to obtain an Instruction Permit and at least 16 years old for a Class C License.
  • You have to pass the normal vision and written exams for the Instruction Permit, as well as the driving test for the Class C.
  • Bring all of the proper identification. It's a lot harder than you think to get McLovin printed on your license.
  • If you're under 18, you have to be in compliance with school attendance. So, if you planned on dropping out of high school to become a taxi driver, you're out of luck.
  • When you go for your license, you must present both a Certificate of Completion of a course in driver education and a Beginning Driver Experience Log, which will serve as proof that you actually know what you're doing out there.
