Mao Zedong died on this day in 1976. Chairman Mao is best known as the controversial Communist founding father of the People's Republic of China. But he was also a poet. He started publishing poems as a young man, and his greatest influences were two poets of the Tang Dynasty: Li Bai and Li He. It's generally agreed upon that Mao, who preferred classic forms to modern ones, was no W.B. Yeats, but he wasn't a horrible writer either.
