oct 22 Learn More JFK Announces Blockade of Cuba
On this day in 1962, President John F. Kennedy announced a blockade of Cuba. Television viewers were obviously scared, as they heard the president divulge that Cuba had missiles that could basically take out Anytown, U.S.A. It could've been worse, though; Kennedy had another speech prepared, where, instead of announcing a naval blockade, he was going to announce America's willingness to go nuclear on their Caribbean neighbor.
