Character Role Analysis

Elizabeth/Bertie

Quite often, the great people of history aren't individuals at all. They're actually two people posing as one. In Bertie's case, you have to give just as much credit for his success to his wife Elizabeth.

After all, she's the one who finds Logue and who continues to search for solutions to Bertie's speech impediment even after Bertie has given up. If it were just left to Bertie, he would have curled up into a ball and given up long ago. But Elizabeth is no quitter and she believes that deep down, Bertie is a great man. And it's good that she has so much faith in Bertie too, because Bertie (at least at the beginning of the film) doesn't have much faith in himself.
