Samantha "Sam" Baker (Molly Ringwald)’s Timeline and Summary

Sam wakes up. She's sixteen. Happy birthday, Sam.
But Sam's family doesn't wish her happy birthday. They don't wish her in a box. They don't wish her near a fox. She does not like it, Sammy Sam. She does not like it, no sir, no ma'am.
At school, Sam fills out a "sex test" revealing her crush as Jake Ryan.
Jake Ryan finds the test and knows that Sam likes him.
On the bus, Sam is approached by a geek known as the Geek. She gives all his advances the smackdown.
At the school dance, Sam stares helplessly at Jake, thinking he doesn't know she exists.
The Geek tries to dance with Sam, and she runs away.
He follows her, and Sam reveals that she is saving herself for Jake Ryan.
The Geek knows Jake, and tells her that Jake likes her too. OMG.
To thank him, Sam gives him her underpants so he can pretend to his friends that he slept with her.
Sam tries to find the nerve to introduce herself to Jake, but she can't do it.
After the dance, Sam goes home to sleep and disappears for the rest of the movie except for one scene where her dad apologizes for forgetting her birthday.
Sam returns at the very end when her sister gets married. After the wedding, Jake shows up.
Sam decides to skip the stupid reception and go off with Jake instead.
For her belated birthday, he gives her cake and a kiss. It's the best birthday ever.
