Mother Timeline and Summary

Mother meets and marries Father when he comes through her hometown on a sales trip. She moves to New Rochelle to live with him and brings along her own father and younger brother.
Mother has a young son and spends her days as a housewife, until her husband leaves on a voyage to the Arctic. She takes over the day-to-day running of the family business.
After discovering a black baby in her garden, Mother moves the mother and baby into the house.
Mother and Father grow apart after his return, in part because of their disagreement over Coalhouse Walker.
On a trip to Atlantic City during Coalhouse's violence, Mother becomes more aware of her sexuality and meets Tateh, a filmmaker.
A year after Father dies, Mother marries Tateh and moves with him to California, where they raise three children.
