What is this book really about?

Eyes Peeled, Mind Open

Seriously, Shmoopers, peel those eyes. We don't care how painful (or gross) it is. Once you peel 'em, you won't regret it. Not one bit.

That's because if you don't keep your eyes peeled, you'll miss all the funny things that are everywhere. You miss the Zans and the Ying and the Gox. Mike will never help you get that bike to the top of the hill, and what a bummer that would be. The kids in this book have got it made. They've got an awesome posse of awesome possums (okay, so there aren't any possums), and it's all because they were open to the awesomeness in the first place.

In fact, these kiddos are downright wise, when you think about it. In the book, the children ask the reader whether they've flown a kite in bed, or walked with ten cats on their head. Sure, these may seem like quirky questions all in the service of random rhymes, but they're actually digging a bit deeper than that. These kids are game for everything, and we should be, too. Why? Because trying new things is fun. Oh, and meeting new creatures is fun, too.
