Wandering through Chinatown in a trench coat and fedora, Rand looks a bit like Indiana Jones after an all-night bender at Krispy Kreme. But Indiana Jones has more of a presence in this film than you might think. No, Harrison Ford doesn't secretly have his hand up the butt of a gremlin puppet. At least he hasn't admitted to it.

In the summer of 1984, Gremlins and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom were released only a couple weeks of part. The one-two punch of PG-rated violence angered parents. Gremlins may have been the more upsetting of the two, because it was marketed as a family friendly film in the same vein as E.T. (Source)

But E.T. never shoved anyone in a blender. Not on camera, anyway.

These two films both contributed to the creation of the PG-13 rating, but Gremlins is still officially rated PG, although its more slapstick sequel got rated PG-13.
