Maybe the easiest thing to miss in this story is Dionysus's whole double birth thing. He's kind of born once when his mom is incinerating around him and then again when he emerges from Zeus's thigh later on. The motif of birth and rebirth was mad important to the ancient cults of Dionysus, whose followers were symbolically reborn by taking part in his wild rituals.
