There might be a reference or two you need to Google, but for the most part, you should be able to stick with this poem. The middle section (lines 40-129) is way easier to follow than the opening (1-39) and closing (130-157) sections, where Pound really likes to jump around a lot. But the real meat of this story is in the section from Ovid's Metamorphoses, and if you do a little work and maybe check out a super-Shmoopy summary of Book III from Ovid, you should be good to go.
