To the King, the sky is a traitor. It represents the only thing in his kingdom that won't bend to his will. The sky not only airs ridiculously boring programming, but it also won't let the King touch the remote:
"This snow! This fog! This sunshine! This rain! BAHH! These four things that come down from the sky!" (7)
Sunshine?! How dare it.
To others like Bartholomew, the sky is a symbol of what's natural and right. It has these four things that fall from the sky, and that's the way it should be. (In the end, we find out that Bartholomew and gang had the right idea. Imagine that.)
