Ted Babbitt Timeline and Summary

Ted turns up at the Babbitts' breakfast table with one question on his mind: can he have the car for the night so he can ride around with girls?
As the novel continues, Ted sometimes struggles with school subjects like math and English, but he excels at basketball and more hands-on stuff.
Babbitt takes Ted on a business trip to Chicago, and the two of them bond while eating dinner together and going to shows.
Ted tells his father that he'd like to sign up for some by-mail education courses, and even though Babbitt's impressed, he decides that he still wants his son to get a college education.
Ted heads off to school and doesn't do especially well because he doesn't like learning things that he'll never use.
